Meet Abbie
ABBIE SMITH | LPC-S, Private Practice Owner
I am here to support you on your unique journey toward healing and personal growth. In our sessions, you will find a warm, supportive environment where your voice matters.
Together, we will work at a pace that feels right for you - whether you want to focus on the present or explore past experiences that may be shaping your current reality.
Before becoming a counselor, I worked in the corporate world for 15 years as a Marketing Representative. During that time, I found myself drawn to more authentic conversations and a desire to make an impact in people’s lives. Which led to me pursuing my counseling degree.
Outside the therapy room, I’m a mom to an energetic young son, a wife, a horse lover and someone who finds renewal in travel, fresh air and quiet moments.
How I Can Help Along Your Journey
Working with me you can expect to feel seen and heard. Together we will dive into your past, present, and future at a pace that suits you. You may choose to focus on what’s happening in the moment, learning strategies to move ahead, or prefer to explore past experiences that are affecting your current life.
I often work with clients seeking guidance as they navigate difficult emotions. Please remember there is no “right” way to do therapy. We will go at your pace and explore parts of your story that matter most to you. You are steering the ship, and I’m helping you navigate.
I’m here to support your healing process with care and focus, using a blend of approaches that suit your unique journey. Together, we’ll explore meaningful insights, allowing you to gain understanding, and work toward a sense of calm and balance in your life.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Together, we identify unhelpful thought patterns and core beliefs that may be keeping you stuck. You’ll learn practical tools to shift those patterns and improve emotional well-being.
My approach
At Cypress Banks Counseling, the goal is meaningful growth, not just symptom relief.
I use a blend of evidence-based approaches tailored to you:
Person-Centered
You already carry the capacity for growth. My role is to offer empathy, safety, and unconditional positive regard so you can access that strength within yourself.
My Background & Training
I currently serve as a member of the Clinical Advisory Board for the How U Doin Foundation.
The How U Doin Foundation is in the process of establishing a dedicated clubhouse in Northlake, Texas. This space is being thoughtfully designed to provide teenagers with a safe, supportive environment where they can build meaningful connections and experience a sense of belonging. The clubhouse will serve as a community hub for teens at various stages of their substance abuse journey, whether they are considering treatment, currently engaged in substance use treatment, or navigating life after completing a program.
By fostering connection, mentorship, and healthy peer relationships, the foundation aims to reduce isolation, strengthen resilience, and promote long-term recovery outcomes for young people in our community.
I am a licensed LPC-Supervisor in TX (#71466). I have been serving adults and adolescents since 2016.
Before opening up my own private practice, I earned my Bachelor of Business in Marketing from Tarleton State University. After a 15-year career in sales and marketing, I returned to school to pursue my passion in the counseling field. I graduated with my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Amberton University.
My years in business, combined with clinical training, allow me to bring both structure and compassion into the therapy space.
Origin of
Cypress Banks Counseling
When I decided to create my private practice, I wanted a name that held real meaning. I considered options like 'Your Journey' or 'New Beginnings,' but they either didn’t resonate or were already taken. So, I turned to my own story and asked myself, what chapter of my life characterized the feeling I wanted for my clients? That’s when it all clicked!
For the last 10 years, my family has made an annual trip to the Frio River in Leakey, TX. Huge Cypress Trees line the banks of the Frio River adding to the serene feel of this unique place. It has become a special place I eagerly look forward to each year because of the lasting memories made there. My family finds adventure, relaxation, healing, connection and peace each time we visit.
Our trip took on new meaning after my father's passing several years ago. Though painful to visit at first, it has since become a place where I feel close to him and sense his presence. My hope is that Cypress Banks Counseling can offer you that same peace and healing as you navigate this season of change.
