ABBIE SMITH | LPC-S, Private Practice Owner

I am here to support you on your unique journey toward healing and personal growth. In our sessions, you will find a warm, supportive environment where your voice matters.

Together, we will work at a pace that feels right for you - whether you want to focus on the present or explore past experiences that may be shaping your current reality.

Before becoming a counselor, I worked in the corporate world for 15 years as a Marketing Representative. During that time, I found myself drawn to more authentic conversations and a desire to make an impact in people’s lives. Which led to me pursuing my counseling degree.

Outside the therapy room, I’m a mom to an energetic young son, a wife, a horse lover and someone who finds renewal in travel, fresh air and quiet moments.

Fun Facts About Me

Choosing a therapist is a big decision, and I know it's helpful to get a glimpse of the person you'll be talking to. So here are a few fun facts about me! I look forward to getting to know you!

I'm a fifth-generation Texan

Texas has always been my home. Being a fifth-generation Texan has given me a life-long love for this state. I enjoy the slower pace, wide-open spaces and the friendly spirit that makes Texas such a special place.

I'm a horse lover

If you've spent any time on my social media, you've probably noticed horses make an appearance. I own a horse named Journey, and spending time at the barn is one of my favorite ways to recharge. Horses have a way of slowing life down and reminding us to stay present.

Chocolate is my love language

If there's milk chocolate involved, I'm probably happy.

How I Can Help Along Your Therapy Journey

highway winding through trees and mountain

If you’re considering therapy, there’s a good chance something in your life isn’t feeling quite right. Maybe you’re anxious all the time. Maybe your relationship feels off in some way. Maybe something from your past is showing up in ways you didn’t expect. Or maybe you’re simply tired of carrying the mental load.

You don’t have to come to therapy with a perfectly organized list of problems. You can just show up and start talking.

I’m pretty down-to-earth and conversational. I’m not a “here’s your homework for the week” therapist. I’m also not going to sit across from you and tell you what you should do. I am someone who listens closely, asks questions, notices things you may not have noticed, and helps you make sense of what’s going on. This is your ship, and I’m here to help you navigate.

Sometimes therapy is about working through something difficult. Sometimes it’s about finally saying out loud what you’ve been thinking about for months. And sometimes you just need a place where you don’t have to edit yourself. And trust me, there is nothing you can say that will shock me!

You don’t have to know exactly what you need before you reach out. You don’t have to have the right words. Just start where you are, and we’ll take it from there.

Seeking therapy is a courageous step and finding the right therapist matters. At Cypress Banks Counseling, I provide individual counseling for teens and adults experiencing anxiety, grief, life transitions, relationship challenges and adoption-related concerns.

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and personalized to your unique needs. I believe lasting change happens when you feel safe enough to explore your experiences, understand patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges.

Using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and attachment-focused interventions, I help clients gain insight and develop practical tools they can use in everyday life.

As a TBRI-informed therapist, I incorporate attachment-focused and trauma-informed approaches that help teenagers and adults build trust and heal from the effects of early trauma.

Whether you are looking for counseling near me to help with anxiety therapy, grief counseling, adoption support, teen counseling, or help navigating a difficult season of life, therapy can provide a space to process your experiences and move forward with greater confidence and clarity.

Located in Flower Mound, Texas, I provide in-person counseling for clients in Flower Mound, Argyle, Northlake, Highland Village, Justin, Lantana, Bartonville and surrounding communities, as well as virtual therapy for individuals throughout Texas.

Origin of

Cypress Banks Counseling

When I decided to create my private practice, I wanted a name that held real meaning. I considered options like 'Your Journey' or 'New Beginnings,' but they either didn’t resonate or were already taken. So, I turned to my own story and asked myself, what chapter of my life characterized the feeling I wanted for my clients? That’s when it all clicked!

For the last 10 years, my family has made an annual trip to the Frio River in Leakey, TX. Huge Cypress Trees line the banks of the Frio River adding to the serene feel of this unique place. It has become a special place I eagerly look forward to each year because of the lasting memories made there. My family finds adventure, relaxation, healing, connection and peace each time we visit.

Our trip took on new meaning after my father's passing several years ago. Though painful to visit at first, it has since become a place where I feel close to him and sense his presence. My hope is that Cypress Banks Counseling can offer you that same peace and healing as you navigate this season of change.
